Huayou Recycling has pioneered an innovative “Waste-to-Materials” business model. By dismantling and pre-processing end-of-life power batteries, we achieve high recovery rates of critical materials such as nickel, cobalt, and lithium. These regenerated resources are then reintroduced into our customers’ proprietary supply chains and reused in the manufacturing of new power batteries.
Huayou Recycling collaborates with leading domestic and international automakers and top-tier battery enterprises to integrate global resources and explore tailored, diversified cooperation pathways.
BMW is among the first automakers in China to implement the “waste-to-material” model. By dismantling end-of-life power batteries and leveraging Huayou’s advanced green metallurgical technologies, a high proportion of critical raw materials—such as nickel, cobalt, and lithium—is recovered and reintroduced into BMW’s own supply chain. These recycled resources are then reused in the production of power batteries for BMW’s new energy vehicles, enabling true circular utilization of resources. This initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions from mineral extraction by approximately 70% and significantly lower the carbon footprint across the entire lifecycle of power batteries.
At present, the solution has achieved a cascade utilization capacity of 1.5 GWh and an annual recycling capacity exceeding 65,000 tonnes, and is already in stable commercial operation. By fostering deep coordination across the industrial value chain, Huayou Recycling is building a highly synergistic ecosystem that achieves a win-win outcome in both economic and environmental performance.
